AFUNGI: The Mozambique Liquefied Natural Gas Project

A TotalEnergies-led consortium is poised to harness the vast natural gas reserves discovered in the offshore Rovuma Basin, one of Africa's largest modern foreign direct investments today.

The initial phases are expected to resume this year, which include developing two onshore liquefaction trains with a combined capacity of 12.88 million tonnes per annum of LNG, with significant potential future expansion.

The site of the Mozambique Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Project in Cabo Delgado province.

The Mozambique Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Project is a monumental undertaking in Palma, Mozambique.

Our dedicated laboratory for this project has successfully achieved ISO 17025:2017 accreditation by PJLA, an international assurance of quality for this world-class project.

We will be providing accredited testing for onsite and laboratory soil testing, concrete strength and workability testing and other material quality assurance services.

Our Work

With an ISO 17025:2017 accredited facility, we are set to provide all contractors on this immense project with the building confidence provided by an international quality standard.

These services will include geotechnical and quality assurance testing that focuses on earthworks, soils and concrete.

Both in-field in and in-lab testing will be available, and our Afungi team will be supported by Roadlab E Serviços Limitada, our operation in Mozambique.

An Accredited Facility

While accreditation is a routine part of our operations, this particular achievement holds special significance.

Located in a remote area of the Cabo Delgado province, the logistical hurdles of this effort were formidable.

A difficult task was made more complex by a language barrier (the local language is Portuguese) and the implementation of testing standards by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM).

This unique challenge and success represents another milestone in our efforts to deliver insight and testing in Africa that would inspire confidence anywhere on the planet.

Our Technical Journey

Congratulations to the Afungi team for their extraordinary effort and outstanding achievement.

This represents many months of dedicated work by an international group of operations, quality and administrative teams.

We are immensely proud of this milestone and grateful to every team member who contributed to this success.

- Janco Potgieter, Group Technical Manager
